Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister, Co-chairman of the Azerbaijan-Iran joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation Shahin Mustafayev held a videoconference meeting with Iranian Minister of Road and Urban Development, Co-chairman of the commission from the Iranian side Rostam Ghasemi, Trend reports with reference to the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers.

The representatives of the corresponding state structures of both countries attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Mustafayev and Ghasemi expressed gratification with the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in various spheres, in particular, in the economy, trade, transport and transit, energy, industry, agriculture and other spheres.

The sides stressed the historical significance of the meeting between President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Iran Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, held in Ashgabat on November 28, 2021 within the summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization.

Moreover, Mustafayev and Ghasemi also emphasized that the Azerbaijan-Iran relations entered a new stage as a result of the meeting.

The 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Iran is marked in 2022.

The sides also stressed that trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Iran increased by 30 percent despite the negative consequences of COVID-19 pandemic.

Thus, Mustafayev and Ghasemi also emphasized the successful cooperation in the transit and transport sector, adding that the volume of cargo transportation via road between the two countries in 2021 greatly increased by 70 percent.

The North-South international transport corridor remains a priority in terms of developing trade, transit and transport ties between the two countries.

The issues of holding another meeting of the commission, as well as the ways to further expand the mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in various spheres were discussed at the meeting.
