BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 6. The turnover of payment cards has significantly increased in the country, Trend reports, referring to the information of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).
The turnover of payment cards through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan has increased by 3.35 billion manat ($1.97 billion), or 61.13 percent, from 5.48 billion manat ($3.22 billion) to 8.83 billion manat ($5.19 billion) as of November 1, 2023.
CBA data show the total number of payment card transactions amounted to 120.754 million (up 93.64 percent over the year), including 5.215 million transactions worth 275 million manat, or $161.7 million, carried out abroad.
The number of debit card transactions (both inside and outside the country) amounted to 109.684 million for 8.226 billion manat ($4.83 billion), of which 14.662 million transactions worth 3.263 billion manat ($1.91 billion) were made through ATMs inside the country and 34.662 million transactions worth 689 million manat, or $405.2 million, were made through POS terminals inside the country.
Through credit cards (both inside and outside the country), bank customers made 11.07 million transactions totaling 604 million manat, or $355.29 million.
At the same time, 582 thousand transactions worth 122 million manat, or $71.7 million, were made through ATMs inside the country, and 5.166 million transactions worth 164 million manar, or $96.4 million, were made through POS terminals.
The number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 2.808 million, or 20.95 percent, as of November 1, 2023, compared to the same period last year and reached 16.21 million against 13.402 million a year earlier.
