BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 19. The value of food products imported by Azerbaijan decreased by 5.24 percent ($109.47 million) to $1.97 billion from January through November 2023, Trend reports.
According to data from Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee, the country imported 38,286 tons of meat (a decrease of 0.16 percent) worth $78.5 million (an increase of 8.8 percent) during the reporting period and 11,608 tons of milk (a 26 percent increase) worth $22.45 million (an increase of 32.75 percent).
The country also imported 14,916 tons of dairy products (down 10.98 percent) worth $83.5 million (down 13.7 percent), 312,66 tons of vegetables and fruits (down 8.6 percent) worth $200.8 million (down 3.62 percent), and 12,477 tons of tea (down 5.16 percent) worth more than $64.77 million (down 5.86 percent).
In addition, Azerbaijan also imported more than 1.211 million tons of wheat, corn, and rice worth over $349.131 million.
The import of vegetable fats and oils amounted to 137,601 tons, worth more than $171 million.
Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover decreased by 3.84 percent, or $1.891 billion (from $49.2 billion to $47.3 billion) from January through November 2023 year-on-year.
Exports amounted to $2.93 billion in the structure of foreign trade turnover, which is $12.88 billion (22.76 percent) more than the same period last year. The share of exports in foreign trade turnover was 33.41 percent, up from 26.17 percent a year earlier.
As a result, the foreign trade balance, while remaining positive during the review period, declined year-on-year by over $7.75 billion, or 33.06 percent, to $15.7 billion, compared to $23.45 billion in the 2022 review period.
