BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 19. In January 2024, Azerbaijan's food imports increased by 6.86 percent ( $11.65 million) in value terms and amounted to $181.4 million, Trend reports.
The data of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan shows that during the reporting period, the country imported 4,410 tons of meat (63.84 percent growth) worth $8.5 million (74.95 percent growth), 1,074 tons of milk (16.04 percent growth) worth $1.65 million (25.87 percent reduction), 1,022 tons of dairy products (up 11.11 percent) - $5.4 million (down six percent), 42,633 tons of vegetables and fruits (up 54.35 percent) - $28.7 million (up 44.67 percent), 922 tons of tea (down 16.94 percent) - $4.7 million (down 20.55 percent).
Azerbaijan also imported more than 78,156 tons of wheat, corn, and rice worth more than $22.9 million.
Imports of vegetable fats and oils amounted to 21,556 tons worth more than 24.8 million dollars.
Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover in January 2024 decreased by 9.22 percent or $303,4 million compared to the same period of 2023 - from $3.3 billion to $2.98 billion.
In the structure of foreign trade turnover, exports accounted for $1.8 billion, down $32.86 million or 1.75 percent from the same period last year. The share of exports in the foreign trade turnover amounted to 61.75 percent against 57.06 percent a year earlier.
Azerbaijan's imports in the reporting period decreased year-on-year by $270.57 million, or 19.15 percent, from $1.4 billion to about $1.1 billion. The share of imports in the foreign trade turnover amounted to 38.25 percent against 42.94 percent a year earlier.
As a result, the foreign trade balance, while remaining positive during the period under review, increased year-on-year by over $237.7 million or 51.21 percent to $701.86 million from $464.15 million in the 2023 review period.
