BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 18. Electricity sales to US customers are expected to rise by 2 percent in 2024 and by 1 percent in 2025, following a 2-percent drop in 2023, Trend reports.
Thus, the US Energy Information Administration Agency (EIA) anticipates growth in electricity usage across all major sectors this year, particularly in homes, where a 4-percent increase is expected.
Most of this growth is expected during the summer months of 2024, which the agency predicts will be warmer, with 7 percent more cooling needed compared to the same period in 2023.
The hotter summer is also expected to drive up electricity usage in businesses, the EIA noted. Better economic conditions in 2024 are likely to increase electricity sales to both commercial and industrial sectors by a combined 2 percent. The agency foresees that weather patterns in summer 2024 and winter 2024-25 will lead to higher electricity consumption in homes across all regions of the US compared to 2023.
Furthermore, sales of electricity to residential and commercial sectors are expected to see the largest increases in the South Atlantic region, with a rise of 6 percent and 2 percent respectively. This region has the highest number of electricity customers, and many homes here use electricity for both heating and cooling, the agency noted. Industrial electricity usage is expected to rise the most in the West South Central region, increasing by 4 percent, continuing a trend seen since the pandemic.
