ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 12. Major General Shaykh-Khasan Zhazykbayev, Deputy Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan, held a ceremony to rotate Kazakhstan's peacekeeping contingent at the Fawwar base, which is in the UN mission's area of responsibility, Trend reports from the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan.

Currently, the personnel are in the process of settling in, establishing their accommodations, and conducting handover procedures. The company headquarters is finalizing the assignment of responsibilities within the reserve unit under the mission's commander.

"Training sessions are planned to prepare for tasks outlined in the UN mandate.
The commander of the contingent, Lieutenant Colonel Zhanibek Nurlanov, emphasized that the professional skills acquired during training will enable the personnel to effectively begin their duties," stated the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan.

The first Kazakh national contingent, consisting of 139 personnel and 26 pieces of equipment, was deployed to the mission in March 2024. The peacekeepers were responsible for ensuring security at observation posts, patrolling the area, escorting humanitarian convoys, carrying out evacuations, and neutralizing explosive devices. Their efforts were highly commended by the UN mission command.
