OIC countries fail to reach consensus on adoption of "Halal" food standards

The countries of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) have failed to achieve a unanimous decision in the matter of adopting a series of "Halal" food standards, the Azerbaijani state committee for standardization, metrology and patent whose delegation participated in the discussions said.

The draft of the standard was prepared upon the OIC initiative and submitted for discussion of 25 Muslim countries at a meeting in Istanbul (Turkey).

During the discussions on "Halal" standard, the countries sounded different opinions on certain items and had to appeal to the Supreme Islamic Academy. Following the Academy's response it is planned to hold the next meeting of the OIC to discuss a new food standard.
