President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov has approved the programme for the development of an economic, financial and banking system and plan of action in this area from 2012-2016, the official Turkmen source said on Wednesday.

The document was adopted in order to successfully implement the objectives of the programme on socio-economic development in 2012-2016.

The Caspian countryside is rich in natural gas resources. Exports of harvested cotton and grain are prepared and a diversity of the economy takes place - especially in the textile industry and the oil and gas processing complexes are advanced.

The meeting on the comprehensive measures to improve the efficiency of the financial and banking institutions and the implementation of international norms and standards in this system has been held in Ashgabat recently.

'President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov noted the need for a strictly scientific approach to the efficient allocation of financial resources in the economy, creating favourable conditions for attracting foreign and domestic investment, the development of modern financial institutions as well as further sustainable economic growth and welfare of the Turkmen', the government reports noted.
