Capital investments in land improvement and water economy of Azerbaijan increased by 32 times

Over the past nine years, the volume of capital investments in land improvement and water economy of Azerbaijan has increased by 32 times, head of JSC Irrigation and Water Management Ahmad Ahmadzadeh said on Friday.

Ahmadzadeh noted that more than 1,400 machines was purchased, 1272 kilometers of irrigation channels and 874 kilometers of drainage networks were built, water supply of 121 thousand hectares of irrigated (including new) land has been improved,

Ahmadzadeh noted that during this period of operation of irrigation and drainage facilities has greatly improved, was purchased more than 1,400 machines, 1272 kilometers of irrigation channels and 874 kilometers of drainage networks were built, water supply has been improved 121 thousand hectares of irrigated (including new) land and 682 artesian wells were drilled and commissioned.

Construction of Takhtakorpu-Jeyranbatan channel with length of 110.4 kilometers and the second phase of the canal Velvelichai - Takhtakorpu with length of 31.45 kilometers (the construction of 10.7 kilometers channel was completed in the first phase in 2010) continuous in the frame of the reconstruction of the Samur-Absheron irrigation system.

This project will allow to improve the irrigation of 150,000 hectares of land, to commission 34,318 hectares of new land, improve the supply of potable, industrial and irrigation water for the population, industry and agriculture in Baku, Sumgait and Absheron peninsula.

This project is carried out at the expense of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ). SOFAZ allocated 200 million manat to finance projects for the reconstruction of the Samur-Absheron irrigation system in 2011, the article says.
