A "Bojan" refrigerator-manufacturing plant in Iran's Lorestan province has halted its production, ILNA reported.

The manager of the plant Keyvan Kazemi said that unprecedented increases in prices on imported components caused crisis, and ultimately led to the closure of plant's production units.

As a result of the fact that the production has stopped, some 242 workers from the plant lost their jobs.

"Earlier, the plant used to import components for production for $46 per each compressor, and this year the price for one compressor reached $118," Kazemi said.

Kazemi added that in October, the plant temporarily stopped production, to protect workers' rights, as the plant was not receiving any help from the government.

The "Bojan" refrigerator-manufacturing plant in Lorestan started its production activities in 1991. The plant purchased technology from the U.S., and began production, slowly increasing its capacity.

In 1999 the plant reached European standards for manufacturing refrigerators.
