ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 3. The Energy Council of Kazakhstan has approved the main terms of the deal between QazaqGaz (a national company) and Qatari UCC Holding for the construction of gas facilities in Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
The meeting took place on May 3 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, with the participation of the leadership of the Ministry of Energy, Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund, KazMunayGas, QazaqGaz, Samruk-Energo, and KEGOC (Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company).
Thus, Qatari UCC Holding will carry out the construction of two gas processing plants with annual capacities of 1 billion cubic meters and 2.5 billion cubic meters, a new compressor station named KS-14, the KS-14-Kostanay-Aktobe main gas pipeline, and the second line of the Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent main gas pipeline.
Sanzhar Zharkeshov, Chairman of the Board of QazaqGaz, states that the construction of the gas processing plants aims to rationalize the use of raw gas by increasing processing capacity.
"The construction of the second line of the Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent gas pipeline will ensure Kazakhstan's energy security by providing gas supply to the southern, central, and northern regions, as well as maintaining export volumes. The commissioning of a new compressor station and the Aktobe-Kostanay main gas pipeline will provide gas to the population of the Kostanay region and industrial enterprises of the region," he said.
At the meeting, it was noted that QazaqGaz and UCC Holding had generally reached a consensus on all four major projects. Their joint implementation will begin in the near future.
To note, agreements on the above projects between QazaqGaz and UCC Holding were signed during the visit of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Qatar in February 2024.
