Iran approved increasing the minimum wage of workers by 25 per cent in the next Iranian calendar year (to start March 21), Iran's IRNA News Agency reported.

The decision was made at the meeting of the Supreme Employment Council, with the presence of representatives of workers, employers, and government.

The minimum wage for workers in the next year will be 6,080,000 rials.

The minimum wage for current year was 4,871,250 rials.

Vice President for Planning and Strategic Supervision Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said on Feb.10 that the government cannot afford to increase the state employees' salaries by more than 18 per cent in the next calendar year.

"The government will try to improve the workers and state employees' economic situation by decreasing inflation," Nobakht said.

The Statistical Center of Iran on March 1 put the 12-month and the point-to-point inflation rates for the eleventh Iranian calendar month of Bahman (January 21 - February 19) at 33.7 percent and 22 percent, respectively, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported.

In November 2013, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said his government plans to decrease the inflation rate to below 25 percent by the end of the next Iranian calendar year 1393 (March 20, 2015).

The inflation rate is projected to be 35 percent at the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2014).
