China to invest $25 million in agriculture in western Georgia

China will invest $25 million in the agriculture of western Georgia, said the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia in connection with the visit of the Minister of Agriculture Otar Daneliya to China.

The Georgian government delegation comprises the Samegrelo - Zemo Svaneti governor Shonija Levan, head of the Senaki municipality Gotcha Dgebuadze and other representatives of the region.

During the visit, Otar Daneliya and members of the delegation met with the regional director of the China Development Bank and discussed a wide range of agricultural issues. When discussing the lease, effective system of agricultural sector lending and advisory services, the sides noted the possibilities of Chinese investments involvement in these areas.

In the city of Urumqi, the parties signed a memorandum of cooperation, which involves embedding by the Chinese investors from 20 to $25 million in the agricultural sector of Samegrelo - Zemo Svaneti. Such industries as agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, refrigeration facilities, infrastructure, and agro-tourism development were proposed for investment.
