Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) transported 42 million tons of coal since early 2018, including more than 28 million tons for Kazakh consumers, which exceeded the same indicator for 2017 by one million tons, Executive Director for Cargo Operations of KTZ-Cargo Transportation JSC Aidar Isakov said at a press conference, the KTZ press service said.
"In 2018 we plan to transport 106.5 million tons of coal, including 71.9 million tons inside the country. The projected volume is 3.5 percent higher than in 2017," said Isakov.
He also stressed that KTZ annually fulfills plans on transportation of socially important cargo, adding that the company currently uses 50,000 open wagons for these purposes.
In 2017, KTZ transported over 103 million tons of coal, which is 14 percent more than in 2016, including 31 million tons of coal for export.
Isakov also emphasized the need for single filing of applications for the transportation of coal, uninterrupted operation of loading equipment, as well as, the efficient use of rolling stock by shippers.
This, in turn, will ensure clear planning and organization of transportation, avoiding complications with delivery of solid fuel in the upcoming winter season.
