Solar panel production plant opens in Georgia's Kutaisi

The plant for the production of solar panels officially opened in Kutaisi (Imereti region of Georgia), Trend reports via Sputnik Georgia.

The plant was opened by the German company AE Solar in the Free Industrial Zone (FIZ), which is managed by the Chinese company Hualing Group. The agreement on the construction of the plant was reached at the end of 2017.

According to Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, about three hundred people will work an the enterprise. The plant is located on the territory of 16,000 square meters and will produce products with a total capacity of 500 megawatts per year.

“I always pointed out that we should be focused as much as possible on high-tech production. Today it’s the opening of such a production. This plant will manufacture solar panels that will provide such important markets as the European Union, the US and the Middle East,” Bakhtadze stated.

AE Solar is one of the leading companies in the renewable energy industry and was founded in 2003 in Konigsbrunn, Germany. This company is engaged in the production and supply of equipment throughout the world.

Chinese Hualing Group carries out projects in various cities of Georgia, including Kutaisi, where the "Free Industrial Zone" was created, in which there are about ten enterprises.

A memorandum on the creation of a "Free Industrial Zone" on 36 hectares was signed between Hualing Group and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia in 2009.
