By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Turkmenistan and South Korea have discussed prospects for developing cooperation in trade, economic and investment areas, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The discussions were held during the meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Turkmenistan Shin Sung-chul.

The parties discussed the possibilities of expanding cooperation in the field of IT infrastructure, energy and advanced technological solutions.

In addition, the need to intensify contacts between parliamentarians, academia and business structures was expressed. The importance of the “Central Asia-Korea” Cooperation Forum and the “Korea-Central Asia Business Council” was highlighted.

The parties spoke in favor of expanding cooperation in the field of education, science and health.

Thus, the effectiveness of the presence of such Korean companies as Hyundai Engineering and LG International in the Turkmen market was noted.

Korean companies take part in the petrochemical, gas processing, motor transport and other industries of Turkmenistan.

Trade and economic cooperation occupies a special place in the development of Turkmen-Korean relations. An example of this is the implemented projects for the construction and modernization of oil and gas and gas chemical plants, in particular, a polymer plant in the village of Kiyanly in Turkmenistan.

One of the results of cooperation is also the delivery of 400 Hyundai buses (S.Korea), which is currently being implemented in Turkmenistan as part of a project to modernize the transport fleet.

On may 28, 2020, the Chamber of Commerce and industry of Turkmenistan held a videoconference with representatives of the secretariat of Republic of Korea (ROK)-Central Asia Cooperation Forum.
