BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 7. A total of 1.15 million tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers under a guarantee in Iran from the beginning of the current wheat harvesting season in Iran (March 24, 2022) to May 7, the Director-General of the Internal Procurement Department of the Government Trading Corporation (GTC) Morteza Saadati Kia said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.
According to Saadati Kia, the value of wheat purchased so far is 131 trillion rials (about $3.12 billion).
The director general added that the GTC has already started wheat purchasing from farmers under a guarantee in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan, Khuzestan, Hormozgan, Bushehr, Kerman, Fars, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, South Khorasan and Ilam Province provinces.
“So, 680,000 tons of wheat were purchased from farmers in Khuzestan Province, 88,000 tons – in Kerman Province and 74,000 tons – in Fars Province,” he said.
Saadati Kia added that the value of purchased wheat from farmers under a guarantee for the reporting period was more than 90 trillion rials (about $2.14 billion).
In general, 9 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 5.5 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.
The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up at 115,000 rials (about $2.74) for the current Iranian year.
A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
