Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / Azerbaijan fails to cover electricity demand in busy time, which should make up 30-35% of the country's total power volume, the Vice-President of Azerenerji Marlen Askarov said on 7 December. In busy time hydroelectric power stations should be used in order to decrease the overloading on Azerenerji, but the available power makes up only 12%.

According to Askarov, the Government intends to increase the number of hydroelectric power stations in the country. Construction of hydroelectric power stations requires big money, therefore thermoelectric power stations and steam-gas stations are preferred.

There are 5 hydroelectric power stations in Azerbaijan - Shamkir, Yenikend, Mingachavir, Araz and Varvara. Several hydroelectric power stations are in the occupied Azerbaijani territories.

It is planed to construct a large hydroelectric power station with the capacity of 300-350 MW in Tovuz region, Askarov said.
