In the future Greece is not going to buy gas only from Russia but also from Azerbaijan, which is in line with its strategy to diversify energy sources, said on Sunday, Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis.

Now Greece received 80% of gas from Russia.

"I had the opportunity to present a strategy for Greece in energy issues, which confirmed the correctness" - Bakoyannis said in an interview with Greek newspaper Katimerini ", referring to his visit to the U.S. this week.

"Besides that, we have established a strong relationship of strategic cooperation with Russia, we are investing in a pipeline from Azerbaijan", - said Bakoyannis.

Greece participates in the pipeline "Southern stream", in which Russian gas to go to South and Central Europe. Also Athens, together with Turkey and Italy are going to implement the project of TGI pipeline and get gas from Azerbaijan through it. These plans were outlined in February during a visit to Greece, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev.

According to her, Greece concerned about the position of Turkey, which initially expressed willingness to be a transit of Azeri gas to Greece, but now is not clear in this matter.

In the past Representatives of the United States voiced to Greece and other European countries the proposals for the diversification of energy imports in order to reduce the share of Russian gas imports, RIA News informs.
