State Oil Company of Azerbaijan intends through Romania to expand its activities in the European Union. This was said by Romanian President Traian Basescu at a joint press conference with President of Azerbaijan in Bucharest, the state news agency Azertag reported.
According to him, in implementing this project SOCAR believes that currently there are opportunities to expand the Romanian tanks for storage of crude oil in Constanta. SOCAR has expressed a desire to work in this area. Thus, the state oil company will be able to transport their resources on the existing two possible routes. One option could be that SOCAR itself may engage in the processes of refining energy resourses transported to refineries of Romania and implement it together with the Romanian counterparts. This is the first option. A second option - SOCAR may exercise transit through Constanta by further increasing the capacity of storage tanks for crude oil in Constanta, and then send it in Trieste.
He also noted that in Georgia, there is a large port of Supsa terminal. Currently, this terminal may be approached by large-capacity tankers. "I personally observed the injection of crude oil in such tankers. Crude oil is delivered by these tankers to European markets through the Bosporus and the Dardanelles. I think that this is also the right path, "- concluded the Romanian president.
