Azerbaijan Railways to increase oil cargo transportation as of 2010

JSC Azerbaijan Railways transported more than 10.8 million tons of oil in January-November, a source in the company said. The annual forecast shows transporting oil cargo rose to about 9,7 million tons.

He said there was a drop of about six million tons in the transit of oil cargo compared the total volume of oil and oil products transported by the company, particularly from Central Asia. Earlier projections indicated 4.6 million tons.

The Azerbaijani railway regularly transports oil cargo from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, including Azerbaijan. Oil and oil products are transported by railway to the Kulevi Oil Terminal (of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) to the Black Sea oil terminal of the Georgian port of Batumi and the Georgian port of Poti.

Regarding the total volume of cargo transportation, the source said that according to forecasts, "Azerbaijan Railways" plans to transport more than 15.86 million tons this year.

The company channeled about 13.63 million tons in January-November compared to the projected 12.07 million tons. However, transportation among import and export operations, as well as transit goods, fell to lower volumes compared to January-November.
