The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) plans to begin the drilling of the second exploratory well in the recently discovered Umid gas condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea in June, a source in SOCAR said on Friday. Earlier it was planned to begin drilling in mid-May.
The source said a slight delay in terms is due to the fact that SOCAR has not yet received pipes required for the drilling.

"Part of pipes required for the drilling has already been received and the remaining part is expected to be received soon," the source said.
As SOCAR head Rovnag Abudllayev said earlier drilling of the second well is necessary for marking out the field.
All specific field features which were determined for the drilling process of the first well will also be taken into account during the drilling of the second well.
SOCAR is confident that there are 250 billion cubic meters of gas and 40 million tons of condensate at Umid.
The Umid Field is located 75 kilometers from Baku. In 1953 the first geophysical works were carried out at the field. They were repeated in 1972 in a somewhat improved form. From 1977 to 1992, nine wells were drilled without result.
