Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 9 / Trend, A. Tagiyeva /

Electricity will be supplied from Azerbaijan to Greece through the 'Energy Bridge Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey' project, chairman and CEO of Turkish State Company for electricity trade (TETAS) Haji Duran Gokkaya told Trend on Wednesday.

He said that Turkey is in talks with Bulgaria regarding the sale of electricity to it through this project.

Gokkaya said that reconstruction work on transmission infrastructure is now complete in Turkey. Work in Georgia has been delayed, which may affect the project's timing."It was originally planned to start exporting electricity in 2013, but work delays in Georgia may affect the timing of the start of exports," he said.

Gokkaya noted that the project seeks to ensure the supply of 1,200 megawatts of electricity to Turkey, of which 600 MW will account for Azerbaijan. In total, the project envisages annual exports of up to 2000 megawatts of electricity from Turkey to Europe.

Electricity exports from Azerbaijan to Turkey are planned within the framework of the 'Energy Bridge' project by connecting the energy systems of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

Reconstruction of the transmission lines to the border between Azerbaijan and Georgia is necessary to ensure successful exports. Georgia must also complete construction work on its territory.

A statement spread by Azerenergy (production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan) on Wednesday said that the reconstruction of a number of electric power facilities has been completed in Azerbaijan as a part of the "Energy Bridge Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey" project.

In particular, full renovation of 150 kilometers of the Mukhranis-Veli 500-kilovolt overhead transmission lines, the installation of the third 400-megawatt auto transformer of the 500-kilovolt Absheron substation and reconstruction of the substation's 300-kilovolt open distribution facility has been completed.
