The main purpose of the initiative of Azerbaijani State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patent on creation of the Technical committee on alternative energy sources and energy efficiency is the development and examination of relevant state standards, the State Committee told Trend.
The Committee said that, presently, work is being carried out on the idea of creation of the Technical committee under the leadership of the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources of the Ministry of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan.
"Creation of the technical committee is necessary to work with the standards in the field of alternative energy, and especially on their development and assessment. This technical committee may be established in the next year," the State Committee said.
Azerbaijan is considering the possibility of increasing the amounts of electricity from renewable energy sources.
Creation of energy capacities in the amount of 1,000 MW from alternative and renewable sources of energy will allow additionally exporting one billion cubic meters of gas.
Azerbaijan adopted Europe-wide commitments to increasing the share of renewable energy to 20 percent of its energy balance. The State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources estimates the cost of the development of this sector at the level of five to eight billion manats per year, which is equivalent to 10 per cent of GDP, or about 50 per cent of the expenditure side of the state budget.
