Europe must support Azerbaijan in energy supply, Poland says

Baku, Azerbaijan, June 3

Azerbaijan is Europe's indispensable partner in the power engineering, in particular in the South-Eastern Europe, including Poland, Poland's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Janusz Piechociński said June 3.

He made this statement at the Caspian Oil and Gas-2015 international conference in Baku.

"Azerbaijan is a reliable partner which has invested in the construction of new gas pipelines," he said. "Azerbaijan's efforts in this area must be supported by Europe."

He said that Azerbaijan has put forward a well-thought-out proposal for the energy supply to the South-Eastern Europe.

Piechociński said that the Caspian region is very attractive for Europe, particularly Poland.

"I wish success to Azerbaijan, as this will be the success of Poland and the EU," he said.

The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority energy projects for the EU. It envisages the transportation of gas from the Caspian Sea region to the European countries through Georgia and Turkey.

At the initial stage, the gas to be produced as part of the Stage 2 of development of Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field is considered as the main source for the Southern Gas Corridor projects. Other sources can also connect to this project at a later stage.

As part of the Stage 2 of the Shah Deniz development, gas will be exported to Turkey and European markets by expanding the South Caucasus Pipeline and the construction of Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline and Trans-Adriatic Pipeline.
