By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

Italy’s Saipem company has started design and procurement activities under the contract awarded by France’s Total for Azerbaijan’s Absheron field development, Saipem told Trend.

“In consortium with Bos-shelf/Star Gulf Saipem has been awarded by Total E&P Absheron BV the Absheron Early Production Scheme Project, consisting of Engineering, Procurement, Supply, Fabrication, Installation and Pre-commissioning of an Umbilical Riser and Flowline Package. The design and procurement activities have started,” said the company.

Speaking about the results of its activities in Azerbaijan in 2018, the Italian company said that during 2018 Saipem Contracting Nederland BV gave a significant contribution in to develop the gas related infrastructures in Azerbaijan.

In particular, in consortium with AZFEN JV, Saipem achieved the mechanical completion of the South Caucasus Pipeline Expansion (SCPX) gas pipeline and completed hand over of the pipeline in September 2018, said the company.

In consortium with Bos-shelf/Star Gulf, Saipem said it has been operating, for the Shah Deniz 2 Project, the SCV (Subsea Construction Vessel) Khankendi.

As for 2019, Saipem said it will continue to support the Shah Deniz 2 Project for BP and the Absheron Project for Total.

“ In particular the pipelay program to be carried by means of the pipelayer vessel PLBH, is crucial to support both Project schedules,” said the Italian company.

In October 2018, Saipem was awarded a contract for the development of Azerbaijan’s Absheron gas field.

Total awarded a SURF (subsea, umbilical, riser and flowline) contract to the consortium between Saipem’s subsidiary, Saipem Contracting Netherlands BV, Boshelf LLC and STAR GULF FZCO, for the development of the Absheron field.

The scope of work includes engineering, procurement, fabrication and offshore installation, assistance to commissioning and to performance testing of a 12” single production flowline and its Flowline End Termination structure (FLET), and of a main umbilical, both being approximately 34 km in length.

Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Total signed a framework agreement in 2016 on the main contractual and commercial principles regulating the program of the first phase development of the Absheron field.

The first phase of the field’s development envisages drilling of one well at a sea depth of 450 meters. The production will stand at 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas and 700,000 tons of condensate per year and these volumes will be used in Azerbaijan’s domestic market. It is planned to produce up to 4 billion cubic meters of gas at the second stage.

Absheron’s reserves are estimated at 326 billion cubic meters of gas and 108 million tons of condensate, according to the estimations of Total specialists.

JOCAP, is a joint venture with 50 percent ownership by SOCAR and the remaining 50 percent - by Total, the operator of the development of the Absheron field.
