The network of SOCAR Fiber Optic, which envisages laying fiber optic cable along the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) route in Turkey, can be integrated with the network of Millenicom recently acquired by Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, Ibrahim Ahmadov, SOCAR public relations department head, told Trend.
“The acquisition of Millenicom from the German company EWE will allow us to create a synthesis of networks. As is known, Fiber Optic cable will pass through remote locations. And integration with the Millenicom network will provide an opportunity to connect the SOCAR Fiber Optic network with more populated parts in Turkey,” he said.
Speaking about the status of the SOCAR Fiber Optic project, Ahmadov noted that the project is being implemented in parallel with TANAP and, accordingly, has been completed by more than 99 percent.
The implementation of SOCAR Fiber Optic is scheduled to be completed simultaneously with TANAP in 2019, he added.
The project is being implemented by SOCAR Fiber established by SOCAR Turkey Enerji.
Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR earlier acquired EWE Turkey Holding, owned by the German energy company EWE AG. Together with the holding, SOCAR acquired the holding’s assets - Bursagaz, Kayserigaz, Enervis, EWE Enerji and Millenicom.
TANAP project envisages transportation of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field to the western borders of Turkey.
The length of TANAP is 1,850 kilometers with an initial capacity of 16 billion cubic meters of gas. Around six billion cubic meters of this gas is meant to be delivered to Turkey, with the remaining volume to be supplied to Europe.
The share distribution of TANAP shareholders is as follows: Southern Gas Corridor CJSC - 51 percent, SOCAR Turkey Enerji - 7 percent, Botas - 30 percent, BP - 12 percent.
