Baku, Azerbaijan, April 30

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The construction of Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB), which envisages transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Bulgaria will start on May 20, said Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Trend reports citing Euroactiv.

Moreover, Bulgarian Energy Minister Temenuzhka has said during the International Forum "Unlocking the Business Potential of Eastern European Gas Markets - Competition, Alternatives, Markets, Projects, Security through Diversification” that Bulgaria is still dependent on a gas supplier and so the country’s efforts are for Bulgaria to become independent in terms of supply, Novinite reports.

The most important is the interconnector project between Bulgaria and Greece, which will provide security throughout the region, she added.

IGB is a gas pipeline, which will allow Bulgaria to receive Azerbaijani gas, in particular, the gas produced from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz 2 gas and condensate field. IGB is expected to be connected to TAP via which gas from the Shah Deniz field will be delivered to the European markets.

The initial capacity of IGB will be 3 billion cubic meters of gas.
