BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 11
By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:
Around 21.4 million cubic meters of filling gas has been provided for testing and commissioning works of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the final leg of the Southern Gas Corridor, said TANAP CEO Saltuk Duzyol, Trend reports.
He noted that with the completion of Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline’s (TANAP) section from Eskisehir to Turkish-Greek borders on July 1, 2019, TANAP became ready for supplying gas to Europe.
“However, we are waiting for the completion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) to start gas supplies to Europe. We have provided 21.4 million cubic meters of filling gas to TAP for testing and commissioning works. We will increase the volume of gas in coming months depending on TAP’s demand. We plan to start commercial gas deliveries to Europe once the testing and commissioning works for TAP are completed,” Duzyol told Turkish media.
He went on to add that since the start of commercial gas deliveries to Turkey via TANAP on June 30, 2018, the supply volumes have gradually increased.
The volume of gas supply via TANAP to Turkey will reach 6 billion cubic meters on June 30, 2020, said Duzyol, adding that the pipeline will transport 6 billion cubic meters per annum in the coming period.
TAP project, worth 4.5 billion euros, is one of the priority energy projects for the European Union (EU). The project envisages transportation of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz Stage 2 to the EU countries.
Connecting with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Greek-Turkish border, TAP will cross Northern Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea before coming ashore in Southern Italy to connect to the Italian natural gas network.
