BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb.12
By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:
Azerbaijan plans to export around 1 billion cubic meters of gas to Georgia, at least 8 bcm to Turkey and over 5 bcm to Europe in 2021, Trend quoted Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov as saying.
“The Trans Adriatic Pipeline, one of the major segments of the Southern Gas Corridor, will supply 13 percent of natural gas to Italy in 2022, 20 percent to Greece and 33 percent to Bulgaria. It is planned to use both TANAP and TAP at full capacity by 2023. Shah Deniz field has produced 137 bcm of gas and is currently the major source for the Southern Gas Corridor. As such, Southern Gas Corridor is strengthening Azerbaijan’s energy security, diversifies markets, sources and routes for consumer countries,” said the minister.
He pointed out that as part of the European Union carbon neutrality priority the Southern Gas Corridor ensures fuel supply with minimal environmental affect.
Shahbazov noted that TAP’s commissioning doesn’t mean the completion of the Southern Gas Corridor project, but on the contrary, it marks the start of new opportunities.
“Having completed the first phase of the Southern Gas Corridor, we are now thinking about the next phase. The implementation of the second phase will allow to produce Azerbaijani gas from undeveloped fields, which will create transit opportunities for new suppliers,” added the minister.
