By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Ukraine’s proposal to Azerbaijan about using its underground gas storages requires detailed study, Ibrahim Ahmadov, deputy head of the public relations and events department at Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR told Trend.

Ukraine’s deputy energy minister Yaroslav Demchenkov earlier said that Ukrainian underground storage facilities, which should be filled with Azerbaijani gas, could well strengthen Europe’s energy security.

“Reversals based on the Trans-Balkan pipeline and the use of huge underground gas storage facilities in Ukraine can help increase gas supplies from Azerbaijan to the EU and further strengthen the reliability of natural gas supplies to the region,” he said.

Ahmadov said that Azerbaijan has underground gas storages, which are used regularly for seasonal increasing gas supplies within the country.

“In the case of necessity, these gas storages can also be used for regulating the volume of exported gas,” he added.
