The total electricity generation by Azerbaijan's power plants amounted to 27.8 billion kWh in 2021, which is 7.9 percent or 2.04 billion kWh more than in 2020, Trend reports citing a report of the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan on activities in 2021.
Some 94.2 percent of the electricity produced during this period came from thermal power plants, 4.6 percent from hydroelectric power plants and 1.2 percent of electricity was generated from renewable energy sources, report notes.
The share of renewable energy in the total energy balance of Azerbaijan amounted to 5.8 percent last year, the report says.
Electricity consumption in Azerbaijan last year amounted to 23.6 billion kWh.
