BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 13. Iran plans to return to developing the Iran-Iraq joint Yadavaran oil field (called Sinbad in Iraq), in order to increase production from the field, as of the first half of the next Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), official of Iranian Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC), Mojtaba Moradi said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

According to Moradi, activities on the development of the Yadavaran oil field have been suspended for about 6 years. However, taking into account that the mentioned field is a joint field and the neighboring country continues operations there, Iran has decided not to stay behind.

The official added that currently, a number of operations are being carried out on the oil wells to be drilled in the field. With the completion of the work, 42 new wells will be drilled in the Yadavaran field, and approximately 42,000 barrels of crude oil will be added to the daily output from the field.

He also pointed out that about $400 million will be spent on increasing production from Yadavaran oil field. In this regard, the opportunities and workforce of Iran's Saba Arvand Oil and Gas Development Company, Petroleum Engineering and Development Company and other Iranian contractor companies will be used.

The Yadavaran oil field, which is located 60 km southwest of the Ahvaz city in the Khuzestan Province on the Iran-Iraq border, contains 6.3 billion barrels of oil. It is estimated that about 6.2 billion barrels of this volume can be extracted.

The extraordinary extraction from this field exceeded 50,000 barrels per day. More than 110,000 barrels of oil are currently extracted daily from the first phase of the field through 49 wells.
