BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 7. The Dede Gorgud drilling rig could participate in new projects in the last quarter of 2024 or early 2025, a source in Azerbaijan's oil and gas industry told Trend.

"The Dede Gorgud drilling rig is currently warm stacked, and as of now, there are no designated projects for this rig. We are optimistic that it might find involvement in certain projects towards the end of 2024 and into 2025," the source revealed.

Furthermore, the source added that the drilling of a well at Shah Deniz field using a semi-submersible drilling rig named after Heydar Aliyev is in its final stages.

The Dede Gorgud rig played a crucial role in drilling the first appraisal well at the Karabakh field, reaching a depth of 180 meters. The field's productive formations are situated at a depth of 3.4 kilometers. Preliminary estimates indicate that the discovered oil and gas volumes are sufficient for economically viable development, with geological reserves estimated at over 60 million tons of oil.

Additionally, Dede Gorgud conducted exploration drilling at the Zhenis field in Kazakhstan.
