The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) intends to implement the main part of the program on collection of law-pressure gas on the shallow water Guneshli field, developing by SOCAR, Trend reports citing Shahin Mustafayev, the Vice-President of SOCAR on economic issues. It will be completed in 2007. The implementation of the program costs around $200m.

The program is developed at the expense of $481,250 grant of the World Bank. The funds for implementation of the project are allocated by the Japanese government. A working group on development of the program will be established soon.

The program will envisage construction of gas compressor station on free part of the Guneshli-4 platform. The station will allow the Company to increase pressure of gas and transport it to the coast. SOCAR will extract 4.9bn cu m of gas per year from the Guneshli field by 2010. At present the figure is equal to 2.2bn cu m of gas.

Around 1.6m cu m of low-pressure gas is wasted on shallow water Guneshli and around 800,000 cu m on the Chirag field.
