In January-September 2018, the turnover of payment cards through ATMs and POS-terminals in Azerbaijan amounted to 14.11 billion manats, which is 19.78 percent more than in January-September 2017, reads the report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan.
The total number of transactions with payment cards in January-September made up 9.55 million (an increase of 20.35 percent).
The number of operations on debit cards [both inside and outside the country] equaled to 8.511 million in the amount of 1.276 billion manats, of which almost 5.154 million operations in the amount of 983 million manats were carried out through ATMs inside the country, and 920,000 operations in the amount of 123 million manats - through POS-terminals.
In January-September 2018, the banks' customers carried out via credit cards [both inside and outside the country] 1,039 million operations totaling 135 million manats (over 318,000 operations amounting to 52 million manats - with the help of ATMs inside the country, and 318,000 operations amounting to 33 million manats - with the help of POS-terminals inside the country).
Number of payment cards, ATMs and POS-terminals
At the end of September, the number of payment cards increased by 9.7 percent to 6.36 million compared to the beginning of the year.
Most of the cards – about 5.47 million – refers to debit cards, in particular, 2.5 million – to social cards, 1.9 million - to payroll cards, and 0.98 million – to other types of cards. The number of credit cards for this period amounted to 887,000.
As of October 1, 2018, there were 2,479 ATMs in the country, of which 1,333 are in Baku, 1,146 are in other cities and regions of the country. In January-September, the total number of ATMs increased by 48, or 2 percent.
The number of POS-terminals in the country amounted to 65,970, of which 38,677 were installed in Baku, 27,293 were installed in other cities and regions of the country.
In January-September, the number of POS terminals in Azerbaijan increased by 499, or 0.76 percent.
Volume of transactions in ATMs and POS-terminals
In September, for 1000 people in Azerbaijan, there were four ATMs and 0.15 POS-terminal.
On average, 2,207.5 transactions amounting to 417,763 manats accounted for the share of one ATM in September. The amount of one transaction accounting for one ATM amounted to 189.2 manats.
On average, 18.8 transactions in the amount of 2358.4 manats accounted for one POS terminal during the reporting period. The amount of one POS terminal transaction was 125.6 manats.
