Georgian citizens spent 2.35 billion lari ($816.7 million) abroad by using bank cards in 2019, Trend reports referring to National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

As reported, this is 34 percent more compared to 2018.

In 2018, Georgian citizens spent 1.75 billion lari ($608.2 million) abroad by bank cards.

Data from the NBG show that Georgian citizens spent 230.7 million lari ($80.1 million) abroad by using bank cards in December 2019, which is 44.5 percent more compared to the same period of 2018.

According to Visa company, Georgia ranks first in terms of the percentage of contactless payments in domestic transactions. As reported, the country leads the way to delivering fast, easy, secure payments at checkout.

"Some 95 percent of payments are contactless in Georgia, which means out of ten face-to-face payment transactions nine or more are paid by contactless cards or digital wallets," said Visa.
