Uzbek Central bank notes increase in volume of foreign currency sale

The volume of foreign currency sold by individuals through exchange offices amounted to $1.5 billion during the period from January through March 2020, having increased by 1.7 times compared to the same period of 2019 ($884 million), Trend reports with the reference to review of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan on domestic currency market for 1Q2020.

Individuals bought $1.17 billion of foreign currency, which is 3.4 times higher than for the same period last year ($346 million), the report said.

In the last ten days of April 2020, the average daily volume of foreign currency sold by individuals to banks has increased by 2.5 times compared to the average daily sales volumes in the first and second decades, amounting to $9.6 million.

In the period from January through March 2020, the volume of foreign currency funds received in the country through international money transfers amounted to $1.3 billion, having decreased by $161 million or 11 percent as compared to the same period of the previous year.

In April, Uzbekistan received $250 million through international money transfer systems. This figure has decreased by 15 percent compared to March 2020.

At the same time, the average daily volume of international money transfers increased 1.7 times in the last decade of the month compared to the first and second decades of the month (from $6.7 million to $11.5 million).
