Money transfers volume swells in Kazakhstan

Some 6.3 million money transfers worth 53.8 trillion tenge ($130.7 billion) were carried out in Kazakhstan using payment systems of Kazakhstan's National Bank in Apr. 2020, which is 73.6 percent more in volume and 12.4 percent less in value than in Mar. 2020, Trend reports with reference to the data of Kazakhstan’s National Bank.

On average, 285,900 transactions worth 2.4 trillion tenge ($5.8 billion) were carried out daily.

The volume of plastic cards issued in Kazakhstan amounted to 37.8 million cards as of May 1, 2020, and 54.2 percent on them were used in Apr. 2020.

The volume of transactions via plastic cards of Kazakh issuers amounted to 159.8 million transactions worth 2.8 trillion tenge ($6.8 billion) in Apr. 2020, which means a decrease by 18.1 percent in volume and by 20.5 percent in value compared to Mar. 2020.

In turn, the share of non-cash payments in total structure of operations via plastic cards of Kazakh issuers amounted to 87.8 percent in Apr. 2020 compared to 85.9 percent in Mar. 2020 in volume, and to 64.4 percent compared to 62.3 percent by value.

Furthermore, the total volume of funds sent via international systems of money transfers amounted to 0.1 million transfers worth 26 billion ($63.1 million) in Apr. 2020, which is 46.7 percent less in value compared to Mar. 2020.

Out of the total volume of transfers, some 66.5 percent (0.1 million) of total volume or 86.6 percent of total value (22.5 billion tenge or $54.6 million) accounted for transfers from Kazakhstan to other countries.

Some 33.5 percent of total volume (0.04 million) and 13.4 percent of total value (3.5 billion tenge or $8.5 million) accounted for transfers in Kazakhstan. The remaining 0.1 million transfers worth 12.6 billion tenge ($30.6 million) accounted for transfers from other countries to Kazakhstan.

Total number of payment systems operating in Kazakhstan as of May 1, 2020, is 17 systems, including those of National Bank, systems of money transfers and systems of plastic cards.
