Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the value of goods and services sold on E-commerce platform in Georgia declined contrary to expectations, Trend reports with reference to National Bank of Georgia (NBG).
As reported, in May 2020, Georgian citizens spent 260.4 million lari ($85.5 million) on e-commerce transactions, down by 55.1 million lari ($18.1 million), which is a 17.4-percent decline compared to the same period of 2019.
From January through May 2020, the total value of the internet operations declined by 101 million lari ($33.1 million) and amounted to 1.33 billion lari ($436.9 million).
According to the National Bank of Georgia, at point of sale (POS) terminals, trade outlets and service centers, the number of payments peaked in December 2019 and totaled 930 million lari ($305.5 million).
In May 2020, this indicator amounted to 781.4 million lari ($256.7 million), up by 23.6 percent year-on-year.
