Payment card turnover surges in Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 26

The debit and credit card turnover through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan amounted to 2.3 billion manat ($1.3 billion) in June 2020, which is 36.3 percent more than in June 2019, Trend reports referring to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the CBA report, the total number of transactions with payment cards amounted to 18.6 million transactions (an increase of 52.8 percent) worth 2.3 billion manat ($1.3 billion) for the reporting period, including 1.7 million transactions worth 72 million manat ($42 million) outside the country.

The number of transactions with debit cards (both domestically and abroad) reached 15.9 million transactions worth 2.2 million manat ($1.3 million), of which 6.6 million transactions worth 15.9 million manat ($9.3 million) were carried out using ATMs in Azerbaijan, and 3 million operations worth 241,000 manat ($141,764) via POS terminals.

In June 2020, bank customers carried out 2.6 million transactions worth 140 million manat ($82 million) via credit cards (both domestically and abroad).

Meanwhile, 236,000 operations worth 38 million manat ($22 million) were carried out using ATMs within the country, and 1.2 million operations worth 54 million manat ($31 million) were carried out using POS terminals in the country.
