Azerbaijan increases financing of educational sphere for 2021

Azerbaijani Finance Ministry disclosed the amount of funds allocated from the 2021 state budget for educational sphere, Trend reports referring to the ministry.

As reported, it’s planned to allocate over 3.2 billion manat ($1.8 billion), which is by 242.9 million manat ($142.8 million), or 8 percent more than this year, and slightly over 1 billion manat ($640 million), or 49.5 percent more than in 2019.

The share of spending on education in the structure of state budget expenditures for 2021 will be 11.5 percent, which is 0.5 percentage points more than in the current year. The share of education spending in projected GDP for 2021 will be 4.3 percent, up 1.6 percentage points compared to the 2019 state budget.

Of the funds allocated for education, 1.76 billion manat ($1.04 billion), or 53.8 percent will account for general education, which is 3.7 percent more than this year. One billion manat ($588.2 million) or 30.5 percent will be spent on financing educational programs and events. Some 319.3 million manat ($187.8 million) or 9.7 percent were allocated for preschool education.

Besides, 71 million manat ($41.7 million) or 2.2 percent of the educational allocations are aimed to finance secondary specialized education, and 60.9 million manat ($35.8 million), or 1.9 percent - higher education. Some 51.1 million manat or $30 million (1.6 percent) was allocated for vocational education next year, and 9.4 million manat or $5.5 million (0.3 percent) for extra education and educational researches.

In order to ensure access and expand the coverage of higher education for low-income groups of the population, it’s planned to allocate 80 million manat ($47 million) from the state budget for an education lending in 2021.

The amount of funds provided for education was allocated to finance 18 activities, including 24 subprograms and 111 programs.
