Azerbaijan discloses volume of 2020 defense, national security spending

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 21

Over 3.7 billion manat ($2.1 billion) was allocated for Azerbaijan’s defense and national security field from the state budget last year, Trend reports referring to the bill on ‘Implementation of Azerbaijani state budget for 2020’.

According to the bill, of these funds, 1.63 billion manat ($960 million) were allocated for the defense, 240.67 million manat ($141.57 million) - for the national security, 278.8 million manat ($164 million) - for the border service, 3.7 million manat ($2.1 million) - for research in the field of defense and national security, and 1.6 billion manat ($940 million) - for other activities related to the field.

As the Finance Ministry earlier said, the total expenses of the state budget for 2020 amounted to 29.16 billion manat ($17.15 billion), which is 2.65 billion manat ($1.56 billion), or 10 percent more than in 2019.
