Iran may have large budget deficit

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 22

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

There is a concern that Iran's budget deficit could be about 2.5-3 quadrillion rials (about $59.5-$71.4 billion) by the end of the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), the head of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Reza Pour Ebrahimi told IRIB, Trend reports.

Pour Ebrahimi noted that a number of steps should be taken to eliminate the budget deficit.

The head added that the country has serious problems related to revenues in certain fields.

“In general, 90 percent of revenues are related to taxes. However, customs revenues were accounted for 35 percent and oil sales for 15 percent. While revenues from state-owned companies are very low,” he said.

Reportedly, Iran’s budget for current year will be about 24.4 quadrillion rials (about $580 billion).
