The Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry is taking part in a session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the U.N. Committee on the Peaceful Use of Outer Space in Vienna.
The session will continue until Feb. 18.
The Azerbaijani delegation participating in the session as an observer is led by the head of the ministry's Public Enterprises Coordination Department, Mir Heydar Ismailov.
The agenda includes issues of international cooperation in space research and technology, the role of space technology in resolving climate challenges facing the planet, and the use of space systems for warning and liquidating emergency situations.
It is not excluded that the delegates of the session will assess the chances of the Earth's collision with the asteroid Apophis. Apophis was discovered in 2004 by members of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
