Cost of broadband Internet development project announced in Azerbaijan

It is planned to lay around 18,000 kilometres of optic communication lines in Azerbaijan within the broadband Internet development project, deputy communication and IT minister Iltimas Mammadov told media today.

He added that around 7000 kilometres of optical lines had been laid throughout the Republic.

"The development of the project is in its final stage," he said. "International experts are evaluating the project."

The project was previously estimated at over 400 million manat, which is expected to be allocated by the State Oil Fund."

He added that the entire republic will be covered by the optical communication lines, including remote areas where the minimum access speed is 5 Mbit /s, in the big cities and up to 1 Gbit / s, in the district centres and at least 30 Mbit / s by late 2015.

The official exchange rate is 0, 7849 AZN/USD on Nov. 5.
