According to the year totals, the subscriber base of Azerbaijani mobile operator Bakcell grew by 15 per cent in 2012, head of Bakcell Richard Shearer said at a press conference on Thursday.
"Today 40 per cent of the mobile internet market belongs to Bakcell. The quality of Internet services rendered by our company is comparable to mobile internet services provided by mobile operators in the UK, but Bakcell network's tariffs are considerably lower than the rates operating in Great Britain," Shearer said.
The number of base stations involved in the company's network is more than 2000.
Today, the company's network covers more than 99 per cent of the population and 92 per cent of the country's territory
Bakcell's share in the Azerbaijani mobile communications market is 35 per cent with the number of active subscribers exceeding 2.6 million. The total number of registered subscriber numbers stands at three million.
"We are currently in negotiations with the Communications and Information Technologies Ministry on deployment of 4G network and launch of mobile number portability service (MNP), the introduction of which is expected this year," Shearer said.
The Bakcell Company has carried out a pre-commercial demonstration of the LTE system during the BakuTel exhibition in November 2011. LTE technology was chosen as the basic technology of the fourth generation. The 4G family includes technology allowing data transmission over cellular networks at a speed of over 100 Mbit / s to mobile subscribers and 1 Gbit / s to stationary subscribers which is 10 times faster than in the 3G network. The range of Sür @ 3G services and the number of users of the company's Sür @ service, continues to grow steadily.
Bakcell decided to provide all customers with the opportunity of using 3G services.
Some customers will need to change their mobile phones in order to take advantage of Bakcell's fastest mobile Internet network, the company said earlier.
