Uzbekistan, WB launch Digital CASA project

Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb.7

By Nigar Guliyeva - Trend:

The Digital CASA project was discussed at a meeting held with a mission of the World Bank at the Information Technologies and Communications Ministry of Uzbekistan, the ministry said in a message.

The sides exchanged views on the implementation of the project, in particular, possibility of developing a digital infrastructure.

In Uzbekistan, the WB mission will also hold meetings in a number of ministries and departments, as well as IT enterprises.

Digital CASA aims to diversify the channels of transborder Internet traffic and create a communication hub in the region. Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan are among the participating countries. Central Asia could greatly benefit from the transit of Internet traffic, but this will require commitment to the principles of open access on their part.

The Digital CASA program is in line with the World Bank’s mission of ending extreme poverty and fostering shared prosperity.

The WB assists Uzbekistan in reaching a wide range of development goals by supporting 16 projects worth $ 2 billion. These projects support agriculture and water resources management, energy, transport, healthcare, education, urban development, water supply and sanitation.
