Uzbekistan, China set up JV

Uzbekistan and China have created a joint venture (JV) for the implementation of the Safe City project, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Finance.

"Memorandum of Establishment of an Uzbek-Chinese joint venture as part of the project to create the Safe City complex was signed in Tashkent between the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan and Chinese companies CITIC Group and Costar Group," Ministry of Finance reported.

The main activity of the Uzbek-Chinese joint venture will be the implementation of a project to build and maintain the Safe City complex in Tashkent with direct Chinese investment of $300 million and introduction of advanced technologies and innovative solutions from Huawei.

During the recent visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to China, it became known that the Chinese companies Huawei and CITIC Guoan Information Technology plan to invest over $1 billion in the development of the digital infrastructure of Uzbekistan.

These funds will be used to develop e-government, digital economy, information technology, telemedicine and IT telephony.

In addition, the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications was instructed, together with mobile operators, to study the promotion of Huawei’s 5G technologies in Uzbekistan, in particular, as part of the development and modernization of the Uzmobile and Ucell networks.
