Over 79% of Georgian families have home internet access

About 79.3 percent of Georgian families have internet access at home, as of January-August of 2019, which is 3.5 percentage points more than the same period last year, Trend reports citing the Georgian National Statistical Office (Geostat).

According to a study on the use of information and communication technologies, the share of households with internet access in urban areas of Georgia increased by 86.1 percent, while in rural areas it reached 69.9 percent, within the same time period.

The highest use is in Adjara (89.8 percent), followed by Tbilisi - 88.4 percent, in Shida Kartli - 74.9 percent, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti - 74 percent, Imereti - 73 percent and in Kakheti - 65.3 percent.

According to the Geostat survey, 70.6 percent of the population aged six years and older used internet access in the last three months, which is 6.7 percentage points higher than the same period last year. This figure was 78.8 percent in urban areas and 58.6 percent in rural areas.

According to the age group, this indicator is the highest among the population aged 15-29 years and amounts to 96.2 percent.
